What is a Brag Sheet anyway?
Simply put, a traditional Brag Sheet is the resume of a High School Student. A well put-together Brag Sheet will include Academic highlights, Extra-curricular highlights, Athletic achievements, Community and Leadership achievements, Work History, and any other events, trips, conventions, or seminars that the students has attended/achieved.
Brag Sheets can be attached to applications or brought in by the applying student when appearing for interviews. We would advise students to send a Brag Sheet to the admissions counselor once a relationship has started – this way the counselor is already familiar with achievements prior to the interview, and will have plenty of material to talk about when the student arrives.
A Brag Sheet should also be given to the High School Guidance Counselor, as this person will have contact with the college admissions departments – and will also be writing letters of recommendation for the applicant. What better way for the letter writer to know about your achievements than to give them your Brag Sheet!!
Your Brag Sheet can only be as good as the effort you’ve put in to your High School career. That being said, most students have plenty of material to put onto a Brag Sheet. Athletes, scholars, artists, authors, bloggers, actors all have achievements they can be proud of – and colleges want to know about them!!
Will a Brag Sheet get you into any particular college? Combined with your formal application, your standardized test scores, and your interview performance (if the college has one) – IT CAN CERTAINLY HELP!! You can help yourself to stand out in the crowd of applicants by marketing yourself in a positive and personal way!!
You may want to consider the bragTAG application on Facebook, as an easy way to get started putting together your Brag Sheets. Not only will you have your achievements listed – but bragTAG allows for a multi-media presentation of your Brag Sheet. What better way to show both High School Guidance and College Admissions the value in recommending and admitting you as freshman at college!!
